AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS INCREASE
As a result of increased funding from Prop. 49, the School District and the Woodcraft Rangers announced the expansion of their after school programs into all the elementary schools.

The passage of this initiative enhanced the state’s investment in after school programs. Prior to this expansion, the school district had programs in eight of the twelve schools with this new funding, 4 new schools will now be provided with these programs as well.

“It is common knowledge that children who are left home alone after school unsupervised between 3:00pm and 6:00pm are more likely to get involved with gangs and get into trouble," said Agredano. “After school programs keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire students to learn. This funding will provide thousands of children with a safe environment.”

Woodcraft teachers utilize student’s interests to enhance skills in math or reading. For more information on how to sign up your student in an after school program please call (626) 307-3444.

EAST L.A. COLLEGE COMES TO SAN GABRIEL
East Los Angeles College has partnered up to establish a college satellite campus at Dan T. Williams Elementary.
This unique partnership will establish a Math Academy for elementary students while serving as an extension for East LA College in the evening.

Facing serious budget hardship, Commissioner Felipe Agredano, former board president met with college officials to discuss the possibility of a partnership that would benefit both parties. Under the leadership of the former board President Agredano, the Board of Education unanimously voted to approve the deal between the school district and ELAC.The new agreement will bring greatly needed dollars to the district and will establish the Jaime Escalante Math Program as a math academy. Most importantly, the deal will also prevent the closure of the local Elementary.

This unique agreement will provide free innovative math programs for middle and high school students. The math academy will offer geometry, algebra and a “College for Kids” campus.

“The real winners in this partnership are the working families and students of the School District. Our students stand to gain greatly from the services, educational programs and enriched math classes provided by East LA College” said Agredano.
